Data Center MEP QA/QC Checklist Toolkit
This field guide is a working tool for construction- and installation-phase QA/QC on data center mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. It is organized as a series of stand-alone inspection checklists, each mapped to the standards and reference documents most commonly cited in data center specifications.
Each checklist uses a RAG (Red / Amber / Green) status field so field inspectors, trade foremen, and commissioning agents can record findings quickly and consistently across a project. Items marked RED are stop-work or hold-point conditions and should be escalated immediately; AMBER items are deficiencies to be corrected before the next milestone or energization step; GREEN items are accepted as-installed.
GREEN — Pass
Meets spec/drawing/standard. No action required.
AMBER — Deficiency
Minor nonconformance. Correct before next milestone.
RED — Fail / Hold
Major nonconformance. Stop-work / hold point until resolved.
Intended Users
- QA/QC Inspectors and Owner's Representatives performing in-progress and milestone inspections
- MEP General Contractors and Trade Foremen conducting self-perform QC before formal inspection
- Commissioning Agents (Cx) verifying installation readiness ahead of functional testing
- Facility/Critical Environment teams accepting systems at Substantial Completion
Scope
This toolkit covers construction and installation QA/QC — verifying that equipment, materials, and workmanship conform to approved drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements before a system is released for startup and commissioning. It is not a design-review or O&M toolkit; where a hold point ties directly into commissioning readiness, that link is noted.
Suggested Workflow
- 1. Trade completes self-perform QC using the relevant checklist prior to requesting inspection.
- 2. QA/QC Inspector performs walk-down, marks RAG status and evidence/notes per item.
- 3. AMBER/RED items are logged to the Punch List / Deficiency Log (Section 9) with an owner and due date.
- 4. Re-inspection closes out AMBER/RED items before the checklist is signed and filed.
- 5. Completed, signed checklists are retained in the project QA/QC record and referenced during Cx.
